Recording a CD is a lot like building a house. What seems like a simple process in the beginning can become weighed down by hundreds of details. Problems arise that must be solved, schedules must be juggled, etc.

A producer oversees all aspects of a recording project, at times offering even musical input to help shape the recording so that it plays well in the end. Besides knowing the process of getting a recording prepared for release, the producer can also at times act as musician contractor, arranger, orchestrator, mix consultant, production coordinator, music educator, condcutor, babysitter, secretary, shoulder, coach, and other functions too numerous to include here.

it is important to make the distinction between producer and "executive" producer. An executive producer will also finance the project!

In addition to producing my own recordings, I also produced Dean Schmidt's CD, "I Know Nothing" (OA2 Records), which made the KPLU "Top 10 CDs of 2007" list.
