The Gary Gibson Jazz Quartet/Trio demonstrates the highest level of musical performance and professionalism available in the Puget Sound region. Each of the musicians epitomize the high artistic and aesthetic capabilities of the West Coast jazz scene. These groups have the musical experience and maturity to play the great jazz standards with grace, personality, and style.
The instrumentation of the quartet can be either vibraphone or saxophone with a rhythm section of piano, bass, and drums. The trio can consist of either vibraphone, piano and bass (no drums), or a standard jazz trio of piano, bass and drums. For special events, a larger group (quintet) featuring all five instruments can be used.
The repertoire of the group is based on that body of great American songs written in the last sixty years or so.....from Tin Pan alley to Miles Davis.....the great jazz standards. These songs are remarkably versatile, and can function as pleasant atmosphere/dinner music, or can get people on their feet dancing.
Gary Gibson formerly taught jazz percussion at Seattle's Cornish College of the Arts, a post he held from 1988 (when he moved to Seattle from Chicago) to 1996. Although retired from teaching since 1996, he remains active as a jazz educator, performing and giving clinics and masterclasses at college and university music programs throughout the U.S. He is on the faculty of the Centrum Jazz Workshop/Port Townsend Jazz Festival. A drummer since the age of five, and vibraphonist since the age of eight, he has worked professionally for 26 years, playing and/or recording with such jazz greats as Bud Shank, and various local jazz and ethnic music groups. Gary has been the drummer/percussionist for many of the shows at Seattle's Fifth Avenue and Paramount theaters, and was percussionist with the Seattle Festival Orchestra, which has backs up national acts in local concerts (Ray Charles, Linda Ronstadt, Collin Ray, etc). Gary also leads Calypso Blue and Panduo, calypso groups in which he plays the steel drums.
The personnel filling out the rest of the group are chosen from a small, select group of the Northwest's finest and most experienced jazz musicians, who have "gigged" with, even recorded with some of the greatest musicians in the business. These players are all top notch instrumentalists, and represent the best talent that Seattle's flourishing jazz community has to offer.
The Gary Gibson Quartet/Trio is available for all events, public and private. The base fee for booking the quartet is $850 for one hour, and $150 per hour for each additional hour up to four hours. If your job is on peak time (Friday evenings, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays), the fee is $950 for one hour, and $150 per each additional hour. Bookings in December, which include our special seasonal repertoire, are also at this higher rate. For the trio, the base rate is $700 for the first hour, and $120 for each additional hour. Peak rate for the trio is $775 for the first hour, and $120 for each additional hour. Jobs over 90 minutes will include one 15-minute break per hour after the first hour of performance (customary breaks). Small discounts may be available for steady work or multiple bookings.
Important note about booking us through a local talent agency:
If you are interested in hiring us, and you have placed a call to a talent agency in addition to visiting this site, be advised that we cannot book directly with you if the agency calls us about your event before you have contacted us. It is our policy to honor the "first contact" we get regarding your event. If an agency contacts us, and then the client contacts us regarding the same event, we must book the job through the talent agency. In this way, we can be fair to all parties involved and maintain our good relations with the talent agencies.
Whether you're seeking background music for a restaurant/bar setting or a company party, elegant dance music for a wedding reception, or an all-out swinging concert program, the Gary Gibson Quartet/Trio can accomodate your needs with flair and professionalism.
