![]() (Performing as featured soloist at the Arizona P.A.S. Day of Percussion mass steelband concert)
Playing concerts is the most fun a musician can have, often. The stress of undivided attention (read that "scrutiny") of the performer is offset by the synergy between performer and audience; nothing is more gratifying to a musician than to play something special and have the audience react immediately. The opportunity for this interaction is what makes playing concerts so special. I make numerous trips throughout the year to perform with college, university, and high school steelbands and percussion ensembles. Usually, the program consists of a mix of arrangements of original compositions from my CDs and the bands' existing repertoires. My visits are often combined with educational clinics and masterclasses on a variety of related topics, such as Trinidad's Panorama competition, jazz improvisation on both steel pan and vibraphone, arranging, composition, and music technology. For a list of recent and upcoming appearances, see the guest soloist page. |
